The Drugs Controller General of India aims to prevent the sale of fake cosmetics goods in the Indian market. The DCGI has requested makeup importers to provide detailed information on incoming shipments following a number of raids which discovered high numbers of illegal cosmetics in the country.
“This office has granted import registration number under Form Cos- 4A for cosmetics, which are already registered under Rule 13 for import and sale into India,” read the DCGI’s notice, the Economic Times reported. The statement noted that cosmetics importers are required to provide the Central Licensing Authority with annual statements detailing imports and their value.
The DCGI reported that the Central Licensing Authority is not receiving ample details on cosmetics shipments. The authority noted that it requires details on the number of consignments imported by a business, the total cost of the imported cosmetics in each consignment, and details on the warehouses in which they are being stored in India.
The main culprits for fake cosmetics are skincare and aesthetic treatments, ET Bureau reported. The DCGI’s raids discovered counterfeit botulinum toxin injections, stem-cell based creams, skin peel exfoliators, and hair serums among other goods.
